This Week in Health & Social Care – North Central London – 12 April 2026

Welcome to this week’s roundup of key updates, insights, and opportunities across North Central London and the wider health and social care sector.

NCL Updates

NCL Care Leaders Forum – Speaker Line-Up Confirmed
We are pleased to confirm that the upcoming Forum on Wednesday, 6 May 2026 (10:00–11:30, via Microsoft Teams) will feature speakers aligned with areas leaders have asked to hear more about.

We are also pleased to be joined by a representative from the Care Quality Commission (CQC), who will share insights on current regulatory priorities and expectations.

The session will continue to focus on collaboration, shared learning, and practical approaches to improving quality across services.

National & Policy Updates

Immigration Policy and Workforce Supply
Recent changes outlined by the Home Office continue to impact workforce supply across the adult social care sector. Updates to the Skilled Worker visa route and increased scrutiny on sponsorship compliance are placing additional responsibility on providers.

Providers are advised to ensure:

  • Full compliance with sponsorship duties
  • Robust right-to-work checks
  • Clear recruitment and onboarding processes

Sector Workforce Pressures
The Care England has continued to highlight workforce sustainability as a critical risk across the sector, particularly in light of reduced access to international recruitment and ongoing retention challenges.

There is increasing emphasis on:

  • Improving pay and conditions
  • Strengthening leadership and staff support
  • Building sustainable domestic recruitment pipelines

Health and Social Care System Pressures
The NHS England continues to report pressures across urgent and emergency care pathways, with direct impact on adult social care services, particularly in relation to delayed discharges and community capacity.

This reinforces the need for:

  • Effective discharge planning
  • Strong collaboration between health and social care
  • Continued investment in community-based support

Quality & Governance Focus

Demonstrating Quality in Practice
Guidance and regulatory messaging from the Care Quality Commission continues to emphasise the importance of evidencing care delivery in practice, not just in documentation.

High-performing services are able to clearly demonstrate:

  • What they are doing
  • How they know it is working
  • What actions they take when improvements are needed

Approaches supporting this include:

  • Live audit and compliance trackers
  • Clear mapping of evidence to CQC quality statements
  • Regular review, oversight, and sign-off processes

Events & Opportunities

NCL Care Leaders Forum – May Session
A collaborative space for leaders across North Central London to connect, share insights, and learn from sector partners. Open to managers, deputies, and senior staff across adult social care.

Leadership Development Opportunities
Programmes supported across North Central London and by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) continue to focus on building leadership capability and supporting workforce development across the sector.

Final Thought

Across the sector, the message remains consistent: quality is not just about having systems in place, but about how consistently they are applied in practice.

As pressures continue, strong leadership, collaboration, and the ability to evidence care effectively will remain central to delivering safe, high-quality services.
